Influence

 The term ' influencer' has suddenly emerged in common parlance over the past couple of years - referring to people who use their status on social media to advertise products and services to the watching/instagramming public.  Influencers have millions of followers watching their every move, and presumably buying the products they endorse.  It's all a bit of a mystery to me to be honest. On Wednesday Christiano Ronaldo, probably the most famous footballer on the planet and a role model to thousands of young sports fans across the world, wiped £2.8 billion off the share price of Coca Cola when he removed a bottle of coke from a table at which he was being interviewed and replaced it with a bottle of water. Just think about that for a second.    A bloke sits at a table, moves a bottle, and within five minutes the company that made that bottle loses a chunk of its value. Not only that, but the removal of the bottle makes headlines around the world.  Talk about...

Last week I went to a worship night for the first time since..... well, I cant actually remember.   About 25 people gathered in a community hall sitting two meters apart and all wearing masks.  We were led by a young chap on a guitar and his wife on keyboard and we sang and prayed for a hour.  It felt like home.  Despite it being a bit ' covid wierd' it WAS home.  I was with people who loved me in an atmosphere of worship, singing words of truth, to a God who knows and fully accepts and delights in me.  Heaven. The following day I was in the car listening to Radio 4 and the programme was about ' afterlife'   There was a playwright talking about a play he had written, the premise of which was that eternity could be chosen by each person before they die but it had to be entirely composed of one earthly memory.  This memory would then be lived in for eternity.   Of course the debate then ensued about which memory one might choose ...
